    Restaurant name sparks Portland suit

    E-SAN Thai Cuisine -- a family-run business that encompasses three restaurants in downtown and Northwest and North Portland -- is suing one of the newest Thai restaurants in town, claiming the business is trying to mooch off its reputation by using a similar name.

    The owners of E-SAN Thai Cuisine filed suit Monday afternoon in Multnomah County Circuit Court against Thai Esan Tasty, a 7-month-old restaurant at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Flavel Street in Portland.

    West Linn cooperative preschool has openings

    West Linn Community Preschool, established in 1977 as a parent cooperative for children ages 3 to 5, has openings for 3- and 4-year-olds.

    Classes for 3-year-olds are Thursday and Friday mornings. Classes for 4-year-olds are Monday through Wednesday mornings.

    Wingard is appointed to legislative seat

    WILSONVILLE -- Matt Wingard, the Republican candidate for House District 26, will fill the seat through December, a joint board of Clackamas and Washington county commissioners decided today.

    Rep. Jerry Krummel resigned from the seat Aug. 1 to accept a school administration job in Reno, Nevada. By law, at least three candidates had to seek the position for the board to hear it. Otherwise, the appointment would fall on Democratic Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
